Who pays the medical/dental bills?

Most children are covered under Medicaid and its HMO affiliates. Some children are covered under their parents' insurance plans at work. In no case, however, will you be expected to bear the medical or dental expenses except under very rare or unusual circumstances, or perhaps in an emergency situation for minor expenses.

What kind of training is availabe to the foster parents?

We provide a minimum of 30 hours training prior to placing the first child in your home. In order for you to receive your license renewal each year, we require a minimum of 16 hours training, per inspection year, for each foster parent.

Are there special rules about which methods of discipline we are permittd to use?

Yes, you will be given a copy of the State regulations regarding discipline of foster children. We will also discuss this with you at your orientation and at the training sessions offered from time to time.

Is Open Door available to assist us?

By all means. Open Door is available from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Mondays through Fridays. Should you have an emergency situation at any time our office is closed, you may use the same telephone number and our answering service will notify the staff person who is on call for these types of situations.  (407) 896-2323.  Call toll free (877) 896-2323.

What special needs do the children have?

Every individual is different. Many come to us simply as normal, healthy children who have been emotionally effected by an abusive background. They are no different than you or I if we had experienced the trauma they have.

Can we limit which types of children you place with us?

Yes, you are welcome to describe to us the child you feel you can best serve. However, we caution you abou placing too many restrictions on us as it may take an unusually long time to find a child that fits into all those categories.

How often do the children visit their biological parents?

Each case is different. Some children visit their parents on a biweekly basis, generally for a one-hour supervised visit. Some children have no parents involved, and visits do not occur. If the child does have visits with the parent, you are expected to provide transportation to and from the visit.
